THE HILLS Accelerate RED is a beautiful film that has been somewhat hamstrung by its reputation. Difficult to discover for many years until the Japanese DVD release from Stingray and the modern DVD release from MGM, like many movies that have been out of circulation for some time the movie acquired a slightly inflated reputation. Whilst it’s a qualified film, an savory romp for most fans of the Italian Western, it’s a hyperbolic fable of revenge and therefore like most films from this very particular subgenre the movie is something of an acquired taste.

However, when all is said and done, it has to be said that THE HILLS Race RED isn’t Lizzani’s best Italian Western: for me, it’s not as impressive as the bizarre REQUIESCANT/KILL AND PRAY. However, it’s at the top extinguish of the movies made in the early years of the Italian Western craze, and it’s tremendous to peruse the movie finally receive a heavenly presentation on the DVD format.

Although this might not be as well-behaved as other Spaghetti Westerns, its peaceful worth watching. The final shoot out is pleasant and intriguing, and the region is not that abominable either.

When the film was made almost a quarter century ago, the conception of “cloning” was the stuff of science fiction, as far as the general public was concerned. However, with the unique developments in the site making headlines worldwide, the opinion is not reserved to the imagination. Therefore, the basic premise of Hitler authorizing his maintain cloning doesn’t seem as farfetched as it may have been. Hey, the Germans have given the world the Volkswagen; thus, their scientists could have possibly been working on the cloning process prior and during World War II.

Uta Hagen as an imprisoned Nazi nurse is captivating; stage old Rosemary Harris stands out as the widow of one of Mengele’s victims; A young Steve Guttenburg shines as a Nazi hunter; and comedy team member Anne Meara (sans her husband) is astronomical as another “mother” of a Hitler clone.

But, it is Jeremy Dusky, a young actor who seems to have drifted into obscurity since the release of this motion characterize, who is impressive as four of the “boys.”

Oh, yeah, the enormous Michael Gough is “hanging around” in this one, too! Recognize rapidly and you will notice Prunella Scales from “Fawlty Towers” as Gough’s wife.

When this film was released, science could at best clone a frog’s egg, and that was about it… but now that cloning mammals seems to be a allotment of cake, it can beget you queasy when you gape this film. The premise is that surviving Nazi’s establish some of Hitler’s DNA for cloning. Vivid that it’s a mixture of nature and nurture that makes a person who he his, they create several copies and distribute them around the world, putting them in family situations that best mimic the childhood that Hitler had as a child.

As the aging Jewish Nazi hunter, Sir Lawrence Olivier travels the world and is fearful to notice what on the surface seems to be the same identical young boy in different countries, speaking different languages. Jet shaded, straight hair, blue recognize, sparkling mouth. The child they got to play this share is nothing short of worthy.

I’m shaded to hear that the DVD version of this film was such a pain. I was hoping to choose up a copy, but I’ll fill out for a collector’s edition if they ever advance out with one.

Gregory Peck is flawless in his performance of the depraved Dr. Mengele curved on raising a hurry of slight Hitlers.

An inviting opinion that is even more realistic in light of today’s scientific advances in cloning. Definitely worth watching.

You’re getting a better copy of the display visually.

What I assume of the sound:

Ok, if you know anything about Bebop, it’s that there is a ample soundtrack. Speedily jazz with the opening credits and murky blues penetrate this series. Needless to say, with a diverse accept like this one, the surround mix really pays off. Surround effects and bass response are monotonous on and not overwhelming. Scenes remove advantage of the surrounds to manufacture a balanced ambiance and you might even perceive gradual your shoulder at times. Don’t feel dreary if you do; I did it too. The next Pokemon movie stars two recent Pokemon, Suicine and Celebi. A boy, 40 years earlier, saves Celebi and they both go to the prove, where they meet Ash Ketchum and company. Meanwhile, a dismal guy plans to turn Celebi to the murky side with the ‘Dark Ball’, a machine that turns respectable Pokemon to dreadful! Will Ash and his current friend Sammy achieve the forest, and Celebi?!

After a short, exiguous release in theaters last year, Pokemon 4Ever is finally coming to video courtesy of Miramax. And while it’s not the astronomical improvement to the previous Warner Bros DVD releases we were hoping for, it is quiet a decent offering.

The myth, basically, is that Ash and company arrive across a boy named Sam and a Celebi, who have traveled 40 years from the past. But before Celebi can bring Sam befriend to his beget time, it is captured by the Iron Shroud Marauder, who captures Celebi using a Shadowy Ball, and transforms it into a destructive monster. While the Marauder and Celebi demolish the forest, Ash and Sam must try and set Celebi. There are some surprisingly emotional scenes in the movie, especially towards the ruin as we gather out the fate of Celebi and Sam’s relationship with Ash.

The DVD offers trailers for this movie and the Japanese trailer for the fifth movie, as well as previews for other Miramax titles. Fans will be gay to know that the Pikachu short has been restored for the DVD, and as usually, it’s beautiful comic and features plenty of cute Pokemon. It also a multi-angle animation progression feature, but the footage shown is very brief; each of the four segments clock in at barely under a few seconds, if that. One major complaint about this DVD is that despite the fact that this is the fourth Pokemon feature, it is unexcited only presented on DVD in FULLSCREEN. There are many instances in the movie where a character is speaking, but you can’t spy him or her, since they are cropped off the shroud. I’d hoped this depressed tradition was left tedious with Warner Bros, but the curse follows the series to Miramax. Listen up, Miramax, we don’t mind the sad bars on the shroud, we really don’t. This predicament is even worse when compared with the Warner releases, because the portray seems to be zoomed in a bit more and after repeated viewings, you actually originate to glimpse that the conceal is constantly wobbling. A very dreadful transfer.

Another complaint, though not as major, is the commentary featuring the producers and the cast. While it’s fun to finally hear what the actors really sound like, they don’t really react to anything on-screen; it’s more like a Q&A session. While it does respond some racy questions, it would have been better off to leave it as a separate feature and preserve a regular commentary with fair the producers. The commentary track also only runs under an hour, so it cuts off with about 20 minutes of the movie left to go. Hopefully they won’t do this with movie 5, since the commentaries are my favorites portion of the Pokemon movies.

Otherwise, it’s a solid film, and fans will be glad that the movie sticks very stop to the fresh Japanese script. It won’t convert any Pokemon haters, but then again, nothing probably would.

Oh yeah! I’ve been waiting quite awhile to partake in this slab of metaphysical weirdness! Needless to say, “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? ” is everything you’ve heard and more. People went succor and forth, frothing at the mouth in anticipation of a Freddy Krueger versus Jason Voorhees duel in “Freddy vs. Jason,” but if you want the sincere deal all you need do is check out Joan Crawford versus Bette Davis. By all accounts sworn enemies in valid life, “Baby Jane” finally brought the two powerhouses together for a knock down, prance out fight of narrative proportions in a movie that is so utterly insane it really does defy description. Every thing I will write about the film below won’t do it justice. I imagine this movie is a lot like the Taj Mahal or the Broad Canyon–you can peek at pictures and say “Wow! That looks improbable,” but a two dimensional photographic image won’t give you the beefy finish. You’ve got to go there to be pleased such natural wonders, and you’ll have to rent or grasp this DVD to be pleased the wonder of Bette Davis on autocamp as a dilapidated child star grown up into, well, read on and glance.

Jane Hudson (Bette Davis) had it all when she was a child. A hit song insured that ample audiences turned out to inspect her produce on the stage. Unfortunately, microscopic Jane suffered from an ego the approximate size of Wyoming, an ego that resulted in temper tantrums with her parents and her sister Blanche (Joan Crawford) . Eventually her raging sense of self torpedoed her career even as her sister’s began to flee when the film industry blossomed. Jane Hudson sank into obscurity, liquor, cigarettes, and a ugly case of mental illness that greatly accelerated when a tragic accident attach Blanche in a wheelchair for life. Now the two sisters live together in a decrepit house reminiscing about the used days. Well, at least Blanche reminisces. Jane Hudson spends her time stalking around the house in pancake makeup and a gossamer gown now tattered and spattered, spewing sarcasm and veiled threats at her sister, the neighbors, and the maid who arrives once a week to seek how things are going. Hudson level-headed thinks it’s possible to resurrect her long listless celebrity if only she can figure out a map to rid herself of the onerous burden that is Blanche. Obviously, she finds a blueprint. She begins tormenting her sister by placing disgusting things in her food and making her sound crazy to outsiders. When that fails to work snappily enough, she resorts to out and out physical violence.

With Blanche under lock and key in a bedroom upstairs, Jane begins the rigorous training all performers undertake to return to greatness. She hires a down and out musician by the name of Edwin Flagg (Victor Buono) to descend by the house for advise and dance lessons. Now the precise insanity starts as Hudson speedily devolves benefit into her childhood persona. She prances about the house singing her broken-down musical numbers, giving it her all without realizing how incredibly grotesque the notion of an elderly woman imitating a child is. Flagg thinks Jane is crackers, and he’s true more than he could possibly know, but a paycheck is a paycheck. Until he finds out what is going on in a bedroom upstairs, that is. Faced with the distasteful presence of the local constabulary and the probability of a lot of probing questions about what’s been going on between the two sisters, Hudson packs Blanche in the car for a accelerate to the beach. I won’t spoil the conclusion of this cult classic for you, but let’s unbiased say a startling revelation at the seashore proves to be the straw that finally pushes dreadful Jane Hudson over the edge. The denouement is upsetting, the sort of ending that has you putting your hand to your mouth in a “oh my” gesture.

“Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? ” is a masterpiece of casting, directing, and performing. The concept of putting these two lionesses of the silver conceal in the same portray was a stroke of genius on the fragment of director Robert Aldrich, although many questioned his sanity for making such a decision. Wouldn’t the two actresses drag each other apart on residence? Apparently not, but there were a few confrontations–including a thrown befriend and some steady kicks delivered in a determined scene–and sniping that hinted at the turmoil fair under the surface. Aldrich moved forward, crafting a film that is both claustrophobic in its area pieces and one that uses the murky and white photography to colossal advantage. The film really succeeds, however, because of Bette Davis. She blows Joan Crawford out of the water in this movie, although to be fine Davis from the initiate had the meatier role. Her garish appearance and screeching tell dispute the chills to the nth degree, and her progressive decline into total insanity is terrifying and absolutely convincing. Davis was nominated for an Academy Award for her disturbing portrayal of Jane Hudson, and rightfully so. She should have won. I’ve seen hundreds if not thousands of awe films, and Davis’s Jane Hudson ranks as one of the most disturbing characters I have witnessed in any of them.

Sadly, the DVD doesn’t give us noteworthy in the arrangement of extras aside from cast and crew biographies and a few pages of text describing the production. Then again, it’s unlikely we would hear about the movie from the significant figures interested in its production since they are all long slow. Perhaps a commentary track with a film historian or a similar person could have been achieve on the disc; I know of other films that do this. Anyway, if you haven’t seen this film you’ve got to race, not budge, to secure a copy. It’s that well-behaved, it’s that disturbing, and it’s that memorable.

Say what you want about producer/director William Castle (The Tingler, 13 Ghosts, Mr. Sardonicus) but one thing was for obvious…he knew how to enjoy seats in a movie theater, primarily by forcing some sort of disclose interaction between the audience and the film (at least in his dismay themed features) . In House on Disquieted Hill (1959), he utilized a technique he called `Emergo’, which essentially featured a skeleton, suspended from wires, coming from the hide towards the audience during a specific allotment of the movie, the intent being to horror the pants off those in the theater. From what I’ve heard, it didn’t sound like many were haunted, but it didn’t really matter as Castle was a master at selling the sizzle, rather than the steak, as they say, and audiences flocked to his films…produced and directed by William Castle, the film features the merchant of menace himself Vincent Brand (The Flee, The Tingler, House of Usher) in the first of two films he made with Castle. Also appearing is Elisha Cook Jr. (Shane, The Jumpy Palace), Carolyn Craig (Giant), Richard Long (Ma and Pa Kettle), Carol `homina homina’ Ohmart (Spider Baby), Alan Marshal (The Hunchback of Notre Dame), and Julie Mitchum (Edge of Hell), sister of actor Robert Mitchum.

Price plays Frederick Loren, an eccentric millionaire who, along with his wife Annabelle (Ohmart), has thrown together an keen microscopic party racy five, seemingly random strangers gathering at a shy house with ten thousand dollars to each who dare discontinue through the night. In attendance, along with Frederick and his wife, is Watson Pritchard (Cook), whose brother, one of the previous owners, was murdered within the house, Lance Schroeder (Long), a test pilot, Dr. David Trent (Marshal), a psychiatrist, Nora Manning (Craig), a typist, and Ruth Bridgers (Mitchum), a newspaper columnist. Seems all have agreed to play Frederick’s minute game for one reason, they need the dough, and if some crazy rich dude is willing to fragment with his green for such a seemingly easy task, what the hay, good? Well, the guests come, introductions are made, and Frederick gives them the beefy lowdown. The secluded house is like a fortress (steel doors and bars on the windows) in that once they’re locked in (at midnight, to be actual), there’s no getting out until the caretakers near the next morning. Also, there’s no electricity or telephones, and the nearest neighbors are well beyond yelling distance. After a tour of the house, highlighting where various terrifying events occurred (including a visit to the acid vat in the cellar…man, this position has everything), a few drinks, and some scares (the ghosts seem to have a thing for Nora), Fredrick passes out some party favors in the create of loaded handguns (nothing like being drunk and armed), not that they’d do anyone remarkable gracious if there are ghosts out and about…anyway, midnight is coming so if anyone wants to crop out of this ghoulish obtain together, they’d better bag while the getting’s pleasant…

The absolute best parts of this movie for me occur early on as Price’s character is interacting with his wife, and we inspect the pair have an racy hate/hate relationship…here’s an example of their often inferior and insinuating banter they win in unhurried closed doors…

There are a few more obliging exchanges between Designate and Ohmart, favorable alone of seeing this film. As for the rest of the performers, I had no genuine complaints. At least I learned one thing…never invite Elisha Cook Jr. to your party and ply him with lots of booze as he’ll turn into a staunch poison pill. I did like Ms. Ohmart, and not fair because she was a smoking babe with a immense rack, but because she held her hold with Effect, even if it was for unbiased a handful of scenes. By the diagram, this movie saw a remake of the same titled, released in 1999, oozing with high tech special effects. It was decent enough, but I composed liked the unusual better.

William Castle at his gimmicky best! A Classic, spooky Sad and White, with deliciously devilish Vincent Effect as millionaire with a bored gold-digger wife. She wants a Halloween party with her friends, Note tosses a party all correct, but not with the people of her choosing. He offers $10,000 dollars to five stranger if they will join him and his wife in spending Halloween night in a truly stupefied house. One of the 5 is a young Elisha Cooke, family of the stale owners who died in the house, and he leads them on a destroy tour. To jazz things up, Mark passes out “party favors” - guns. And it’s a bustle to win out whether Ticket of his wife will be the last one standing. This movie is a grandfather of nearly every clichés, blooding dripping from the ceiling, black mysterious corridors, a witchy woman floating around and vanishing - and the topper that organ music!! This is more like a Halloween Fun house flow than a movie! Mark is campy and has sizable fun with the role, with trim lines, especially when fussing with his less than gay wife.

The five star rating I gave Night of the Living Dull is, of course, for the fresh, uncut, unadulterated edition. The fresh is, quite simply, the most frightening movie I’ve ever seen, even when compared to scare classics like Diabolique (the modern French version), Psycho, Rosemary’s Baby, Halloween and The Colorful. I saw NOTLD when I was 9 years obsolete on Creature Features at midnight after a funeral. I had nightmares for the next two nights. The film unexcited gives me the chills whenever I scrutinize it (usually at Halloween) .

When the 30th Anniversary Edition came out, I bought it on VHS as I was fascinating to spy what they termed as “current footage.” What I got was a heinous mess that butchered the unique film, removed the new music for a bad synthesizer derive and added pointless footage that makes the viewer want to grind his teeth down to the gums. One of the additions is a unique character: a fire and brimstone preacher. While the acting in the unusual is amateurish, at best, the “actor” who plays the preacher makes the novel cast glance like Oscar winners by comparison. He snarls, and howls and gnashes his teeth like he has rabies. Even more ridiculous is the extra footage of Bill Hinzman — the “cemetary zombie” in the fresh. The extra footage shows Hinzman’s character emerging from the grave, then cuts to the recent 1968 opening footage with Judith O’Dea and Russell Streiner. It’s absolutely ridiculous as Hinzman looks 30 years older in the recent footage. In addition, there are more zombies and a unique ending to the film that makes no sense whatsoever. This “current” version is a part of trash that desecrates the most shocking film of all time. Avoid it like the plague!

Okay…as I’d feared, my negative review of the John Russo-massacred “30th Anniversary Edition” of Night of the Living Dreary has been lumped unwittingly into this product’s review, so I’ m writing this one to account for.

This DVD edition is the best edition I’ve seen of the film yet. Anchor Bay may have raised the ires of legions of Living Dull fans by releasing the sacrilegious 30th Anniversary Edition, but Elite Entertainment did correct by this unique edition.

George A. Romero’s personal appreciation appears in the support of this DVD — this immediately restores our faith. And the contents don’t disappoint — the record and sound are great, and though this doesn’t exactly own the richest batch of bonus materials (sets like the expedient 3-disc edition of Dario Argento’s Suspiria and the novel double-disc Re-Animator both feature loads of extras), it is a nice solid collection. You find a Duane Jones interview (sadly with only audio and no image, but serene mountainous) ; an on-camera chat between Judith Ridley (Judy) and Marilyn Eastman (Helen) ; the hilarious student-film spoof “Night of the Living Bread” by Kevin S. O’Brien (which also appeared in the double-cassette VHS edition) ; two commentary tracks with Romero, Russo, Russ Streiner, Eastman, Karl Hardman and others. One very illuminating fraction of this DVD for non-film-scholars is visually tiring, but informative — several histories outlining the beginning of Romero’s Latent Image company, on Hardman and Eastman’s company, and how the two were married to get Night of the Living Boring.

THIS is the upright edition of Night of the Living Tiring,, the one to derive for both fans and non-fans alike. It includes all the significant people (watch that Russo, Streiner and Bill Hinzman were included in this release, despite their criminal participation in the 30th Anniversary Edition), and it presents the film the scheme it wants to be seen.

“The People That Time Forgot” is a 1977 sequel to the 1975 film “The Land That Time Forgot.” In between these two there was the 1976 film “At the Earth’s Core,” which is mentioned mainly because all three films star Doug McClure, are directed by Kevin Connor, and are based on novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Ironically, the designate line for this film makes it sound like the films are a trilogy, although “At the Earth’s Core” is based on the Pelucidar series. This film is definitely the weakest of the three, which is not all that surprising because it is based on the second book of a second rate series of potboilers by ERB. Once you collect past Tarzan if you are looking for an ERB property to turn into a film you should be looking at the Martian novels about John Carter first, and then maybe Carson of Venus series or “The Outlaw of Torn.” But this Burroughs rehash of “The Lost World” is not the residence to go looking first.

The basic space reminds you a lot of “Return to the Planet of the Apes. Major Ben McBridge (Patrick Wayne) leads an expedition to Antarctica to procure his friend, the American adventurer Bowen Tyler (Doug McClure), who is marooned on the lost continent, Caprona, a.k.a., the land that time forgot, where there are dinosaurs and cavemen. McBridge has a plane, but it crashes and his exiguous expedition has to survive until they secure McClure (where they can fracture the favorable news that they are there to rescue him!) . McClure had to deal with Germans from a U-Boat but McBridge has to attach up with Lady Charlotte Cunningham (Sarah Douglas), who goes from royal harm to damsel in damage heavenly speedily once things launch happening, Dr. Edwin Norfolk (Thorley Walters), who fortunately knows everything about dinosaurs and cavemen, and Hogan (Shane Rimmer), the faithful side kick who is the positive first choice to be dinosaur food.

“The People That Time Forgot” provides the same sort of lousy special effects that plagued “The Land That Time Forgot,” but without the non-stop action and adventure that redeemed that first film. Besides, Tyler has ditched Lisa, his paramour from the first film and replaced her with Ajor (Dana Gillespie), a cave woman who probably took the blooming English biologist apart with that mammoth knife. There is no need to seek this sequel out of a sense of completeness to the “legend,” because you are not going to be gay to the ending. However, pay attention to the Executioner, who is played by David Prowse, who came to this dwelling after having wrapped up a slight film called “Star Wars.”

For years now, THE LAND THAT TIME FORGOT was not on DVD .Obviously some moron concept it was better release the second section first. Looks like he was fired and THE LAND THAT TIME FORGOT is coming to DVD.

The record opens with a written disclaimer explaining why the eminent Victorian-era detective is living and working in London of the 1940s. Sherlock Holmes’ appeal is timeless, the producers claim, and he is quite pleasant of inviting audiences in stories station during the then-present day. They are, of course, suitable, although the staunch reason for updating him was that it allowed the filmmakers to construct a series of propaganda films wherein the greatest British detective of all time goes head to head with German spies. When the sleuth emerges victorious (as he must always), he can gain a patriotic oration that parallels the proper world spot (the “there’s an East wind coming” speech from “His Last Bow” given here neatly ties in with the WWII theme) . The format is a complete success. I cherish these films, as far removed from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s unique stories as they are. They may accumulate many of the details faulty, but they salvage the heart just, and they have exactly the moral atmosphere.

The beginning film in this Sherlock Holmes series as produced by Universal jumps upright into its Sherlock Holmes vs. the Axis Powers motif. The British government is stumped. At regular intervals, a radio signal is beamed into England from somewhere in Germany. A pompous insist (of scare) gloats about poor acts of sabotage that then simultaneously occur. The British Intelligence agency, unable to locate the source of the broadcasts or prevent the acts of terrorism is forced to call for Sherlock Holmes.

Many of the films in this series were less mysteries, and more straightforward thrillers. This is no exception. In fact, this is one of the weaker entries in the series as far as its status is concerned. The storyline relies a bit too strongly on leaps of logic and sheer coincidences; the climax is honest a bit too amusing. If you’re looking for a mystery in the style of the novel Doyle stories, you’ll be disappointed. There’s too grand that is held away from the audience, meaning that there’s not great left for the viewer to figure out before the detective does.

But where this film succeeds is in its style, regardless of its precise substance. A lot of the sage takes residence in shaded rooms, smoky bars and other wrong locales. The direction, lighting and cinematography are colossal. The scene in the saloon where Holmes (via a widow) turns a den of criminal elements into a force fighting for the Allies is particularly strong. The director plays the visuals for all they’re worth; the craggy faces of the outlaws peering out of the sad, raising drinks to their lips, while Basil Rathbone’s piquant features spy out into the light. Scenes like this are what raise the film above the limitations of its space.

The acting also serves to this film’s advantage. Honestly, I could explore Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce reading the phone book. Yes, I realize that Bruce’s interpretation of Dr. Watson is totally at odds with the current (in Doyle’s stories, Watson, while not the equal of Holmes, is an brilliant and insightful character, superior of logic and independent thought; on the other hand, one wonders how Nigel Bruce’s Watson manages to feed himself every day) . But I don’t care; I assume the two of them are ample fun and play off each other well. Henry Daniell makes the first of several appearances in the Sherlock Holmes movies here, playing a member of the intelligence council.

The DVD features are rather light (there aren’t any), but the restoration that’s been done to the print is wonderful. The recount couldn’t be any sharper and the sound is very crisp.

As the film reaches its conclusion, the dwelling holes become harder to ignore. It’s a pity because the movie has so distinguished going for it. It is worth watching though, unbiased because it is so successfully stylish. The propaganda elements aren’t at all distracting and in fact have become rather endearing as time has passed. This probably isn’t the station for a newcomer to the series, as there are better films to resolve from. But fans of these Sherlock Holmes films will almost certainly relish it as considerable as I did.

This captivating microscopic melodrama does a decent job of arresting Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson from the Victorian comforts of Baker Street into the WWII London of blitzes and blackouts. I have been watching this movie off and on for over 30 years, and it has never looked as crystal positive as it does in UCLA’s resplendent print. Sound is bright and obvious, too, with some lines of dialogue understandable to my ears for the very first time. Speaking of dialogue, it’s quite an indictment of today’s Idiots-R-Us culture that a cheap B-movie from 60 years ago sounds like Shakespeare now. For example, when Basil Rathbone’s Holmes reminds Thomas Gomez that the English beget every life has value, the sweaty puny Nazi sneers “A quaint opinion of an even quainter nation.” Not dreadful. The state purports to be based on Sir Arthur’s extraordinary endpaper Holmes sage “His Last Bow,” but it uses nothing beyond the villain’s last name and the sizable closing lines. In its day, the British were outraged at this movie, with its suggestion of treachery and treason at the highest levels of government, and the country owing its salvation to the trustworthy bravery of a prostitute. Doesn’t sound so ugly now, does it?

Jimmy Durante offers a sparkling performance as a broken-down vaudeville star who rents an apartment honest before Christmas holidays during Stout depression. With serious financial pickle on one hand, on the other, they face the challenges of their penny pinching land lord, Mr. Dingle (Frank Orth) who is keen in collecting the rent money but not fix the apartment. He is a proper Scrooge in person! But his wife Mrs. Dingle (Sara Haden) and their only son Peter Dingle (Tom Drake) are very compassionate and caring. One day during the prayer of Mrs. Dingle, she a finds spacious amount of cash ($100 bills) falling through the expansive hole on her roof. The family comes to gain that it is cash from heaven, a right Christmas miracle indeed! Actually this money belongs to Dingle who gets a check from his gold mine stock every week, and hides the cash in his attic which is innocently tossed by a squirrel named Rupert. Rupert belongs to the last resident of the apartment, Joe Mahoney (Jimmy Conklin) and The Mountainous Rupert was his vaudeville act. This squirrel returns to the apartment when Joe releases him because he doesn’t have a job and no money!

Mr. Amendola uses his suddenly found riches to back the community by starting various businesses and offer employment. Every one in town gets suspicious about his wealth including; local law enforcing authority, IRS, and FBI. In the meantime, when Dingle losses on his investment, the checks halt coming and his luck turns horrible. When his house burns in an accidental fire; he believes that all his hidden stash is lost. Then the kind hearted Amendola steps in to relieve him rebuild the house. At the same time the authorities collect the case of Amendola’s wealth is complex to solve and hard to prosecute, and they resolve to leave him alone.

Tom Dingle who is in worship with Rosalinda does everything to mark her, and to his disappointment she dates a wealthy song promoter named Chick Chandler (Phil Davis), but in reality she is in like with Peter Dingle, a penniless songwriter. The movie pitches the kind hearted souls of Amendola family and Dingle family together to express the moral spirit of Christmas to Mr. Dingle and the law enforcement agencies. The highlight of the movie also includes the special-effects of pioneer George Pal, and the technique of racy puppetry to bring life to the title character a lovable squirrel that rescues a family of vaudeville performers during the Christmas time.
